Debunking 4 Health Myths

Debunking 4 Health Myths

February 27, 20254 min read

Alright, we know not everything we read online or hear from friends is always true. Many people have beliefs that are only partly true or completely false, but they tend to spread them, and that is how we get a bunch of untrue health myths.

Nonetheless, I have decided to debunk some of the most common health and wellness myths.

Eggs Are Not Good for Your Heart

If you have researched egg benefits, you might have come across some disadvantages, such as the belief that they are not good for your heart. But, you can relax because it is totally a health myth.

While it is true that egg yolks contain cholesterol, we have to remember that this type of cholesterol is actually good for us! Cholesterol is needed for brain health, hormone health, and maintaining cellular energy.

There’s also the conversation of comparing farm-fresh eggs to store-bought ones. Naturally, eggs that come from farm-raised chickens are far superior as they contain more nutrients, including Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, D, and E, and beta-carotene, which help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Additionally, store-bought eggs go through washing and bleaching before they reach the shelves. During this process, their natural protective coating is removed, making them more susceptible to contamination. This is why we need to keep store-bought eggs in the fridge, whereas farm-fresh ones can be kept at room temperature.

So, if you love starting the day with an omelette, do not let this health myth stop you!

Sleeping with Wet Hair Will Lead to Catching a Cold

False! You will not catch a virus just because you went to bed with wet hair. It is not about being cold or damp - you actually need to come into contact with a virus to get sick.

But, if you are someone who struggles with acne, you might want to think twice about sleeping with wet hair. A damp pillow can create a perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. So, if you are concerned about that, it is a good idea to change your pillowcases regularly!

You Need to Take Multivitamins to Stay Healthy

You have probably heard that taking a multivitamin can help fill in the gaps for nutrients you might be missing in your diet. And although that can be true, not everyone needs one!

The best way to get all your nutrients is by enjoying a diet rich in nutrient dense foods - ghee, raw butter, raw milk, bone broth, organ meats, farm-fresh eggs, grass-fed beef as well as fruits, veggies, nuts, and salmon / fatty fish. Balanced meals and dishes are actually the greatest way to ensure that you are ahead of the diet game at all times!

However, it's important to note that the soil is much different than it was 50 years ago. Modern soil depletion has reduced food’s nutritional content fairly drastically, making supplementation somewhat essential for most individuals - particularly those eating a standardized American diet.

Therefore, it's safe to say, that’s certainly not a wellness myth!

You Should Drink 8 Glasses of Water Every Day

You do not have to obsess over how many glasses of water you are drinking. Studies suggest that just drinking a glass of water when you feel thirsty is usually enough to stay hydrated and healthy.

Plus, foods high in water, like broths, fruits, and veggies, along with drinks like coconut water and teas all contribute to your hydration. Just keep an eye on a few things. When your urine is dark yellow, your bathroom breaks are not regular, you are super active, or you are in a hot environment, then you may need to drink more water than usual!

If you are into a healthy and balanced lifestyle, there is a high chance you have heard about these health myths that are not true. But, they are actually what we are calling them - myths.

Remember, not everything you read is true, even if the facts seem very convincing. Make sure you check your information before you start believing in it and stay on top of false health myths. That is the way to stay genuinely healthy!
